Eloping in Maine doesn’t get much better than this: a cozy Seguin Island ceremony, lobster on a boat, and a perfect local cake to celebrate.
Let me tell you—it really doesn’t matter the weather, as long as the love is real and big. We had a pretty gray day for this Seguin Island elopement, but it ended up being one of the most fun days we’ve had. Their love was big—big—and you can see it in every single smile in their photos.
May in Maine can really swing either way—warm or cold—and this day definitely leaned chilly (we even brought our winter coats). But honestly, that’s part of the fun of planning an outdoor, adventure elopement. You show up ready for whatever the day brings, and that becomes part of it.
With just our crew and the birds as their guests, V and C made their promises tucked into the spring beauty of Seguin Island’s cove. We tied off at one of the island’s moorings and settled in for the ceremony. Marianne had worked with V and C to customize their vows, making the moment personal, intimate, and completely theirs—exactly what you want in a coastal adventure elopement.
There were smiles throughout the ceremony, and there’s no way we got through the whole thing without laughing. When they said their “I do’s” and kissed, we showered them in flower petals—tiny bursts of confetti erupting over the boat. What followed was the classic champagne spray: an exciting, wildly celebratory (and let’s be honest, slightly wet) moment for everyone on board!
After the ceremony, champagne toast, and a charcuterie board full of good eats, we set out to enjoy the adventure of hauling lobster traps. V and C were especially excited and ready to learn all about Maine lobster. Marianne and I helped them into their Grundéns bibs so their wedding attire wouldn’t get covered in bait juice. Captain Ethan showed them how Maine lobstermen measure lobster bodies, protect breeders with v-notching, and band the keepers.
While Captain Ethan demonstrates hauling traps to our eloping couples, Marianne and I always get to enjoy a few laughs at the back of the boat. We are usually plotting the next great add on for our adventure elopement offerings!
This part of the day is usually, no doubt, the most magically Maine moment. After hauling enough lobsters and tying up in a quiet cove, we get the cooking pot out and start boiling them right on the stern of the boat. The water is calm, the rocky shore surrounds us, and it’s just the perfect little pause before the feast.
Here we are tucked into a small cove in Georgetown, catching our breath and taking in the views. It’s a moment to relax, laugh, and enjoy the anticipation of a classic Maine lobster bake—all fresh, all local, and completely unforgettable.
Once the lobsters were cooked, it was time to eat. Ethan showed V and C how to crack them without getting too messy, which, of course, led to a lot of laughter. Butter, juice, and stray shells were everywhere, but that’s all part of the fun.
When we finished, we tossed the shells back into the ocean and prepared ourselves for the cake and more bubbly—the perfect celebration on the water—just married, enjoying Maine, and having a completely unforgettable experience.
Staci from Cake and Co, a local Maine vendor we love working with, had baked something delicious and just the right size for two. V and C dug in right on the boat, laughing as they tried not to get frosting on their clothes. It was the perfect, relaxed way to end a meal full of lobster and celebration.
On the ride back, we enjoyed the Maine coast and all the wildlife along the way. Bald eagles flew overhead, seals popped up in the water, and the sun sparkled on the ocean. It was a quiet, happy way to end the day—just married, full of good food, and surrounded by everything that makes Maine so special.
We’re so grateful to V & C for letting us be part of their day. Wishing you all the best on your move to Italy (we’re totally coming to visit this winter, did we mention that? ha!) Wishing you both all the happiness in the world!
